Due To COVID-19; Visa, MasterCard, and American Express Postpone Interchange Adjustments
Our office has been closely monitoring how the COVID-19 Pandemic will impact the payment processing and merchant services industry. This afternoon we were informed that three of the four Major Card Brands have decided to hold off on passing their planned rate and pricing changes.
According to two of our Back End Processors, (Worldpay & Paysafe) Visa, MasterCard, and American Express have all confirmed their individual deferment dates. Although we have not heard anything official from Discover, we suspect they make an announcement soon. Interchange Adjustments are usually put through in April and October every year by each card brand; instituting this deferral period will help hundreds of thousands of small and medium-sized businesses cope with this difficult and unprecedented time.
